Growing up in Santa Cruz, CA, Pat McCormack may not have known he would grow up to originate "Heavy Metal Elevator Music," but in 1994, that's just what he did when he released his first independent CD by the same name, an array of instrumental guitar music that won critical acclaim for his playing and writing.

But that kind of originality is to be expected from a man who's mastered most playing styles in more than 20 years of playing and teaching.

In those 20 years, Pat has contributed to the soundtracks to three worldwide distributed surfing movies, done a four-year stint with famous guitarist Ronnie Montrose and placed fifth in the "Los Angeles Guitarist of the Year" competition among more than 400 of the best musicians in what may be the most talent-rich city in the nation.

Pat's work on the newest Kurth & Taylor CD has him performing many of the guitar solos as well as some backing vocals, a project that he and all other band members are extremely excited about. In addition, Pat is currently working on a new independent album of acoustic instrumental guitar music to be released sometime in the early part of 2000.

Somehow, amid all this work, Pat's found time to have a family. In fact, this year, he and his wife Rhonda are celebrating four years of marriage, which was blessed with the arrival of their son, Devon Sean, on December 27, 1998, and godson to Christian Taylor.
